“Girl Rising” is a powerful film that journeys around the globe to document the strength of the human spirit through the eyes of young girls in developing countries. Viewers get to know four unforgettable girls living in the developing world — ordinary girls who confront tremendous challenges and overcome nearly impossible odds to pursue their dreams. Prize-winning authors put the girls’ remarkable stories into words, and renowned actors give them voice.

Earlier this month, Lions Clubs International held a screening of the film “Girl Rising” for local Lions, followed by a discussion panel with literacy experts. Topics included empowering girls through early reading, building stronger communities through health and education, putting literacy within reach for every child, and equity and inclusion within education.

Through initiatives such as the Reading Action Program, Lions everywhere are focusing their efforts on improving global literacy rates and helping young girls everywhere follow their dreams.
